Drilling & Registering a new Water Well in Lampasas County
Well Registration or Permit Instructions:

Please review Sections 2-5 of SUWCD Rules on the SUWCD Rules & Resources page before proceeding.
All well applications must be made by the property owner or their Registered Agent. (To designate an agent, download complete and return the form linked below.) If the owner is an entity (Trust, business, LLC, etc.) the application must include documentation that the signer is authorized to act for the owning entity. Drilling may not start until the application is approved by SUWCD.
An Exempt well must be located on a parcel greater than 10acres and must be drilled, completed or equipped so that the well is incapable of production of more than 25, 000 gallons per day (17.36 gallons per minute) and be used solely for domestic use or providing water for livestock or poultry. Use the button below to download the most recent Exempt Well Registration form, complete it entirely and submit to SUWCD with the required fee. An Exempt Well Registration Number and Notice to Proceed is issued to the well owner when the District confirms the application is complete and the proposed well complies with the Exempt requirements.
All other wells are Non-Exempt and must be permitted by the SUWCD Board of Directors. The district will contact you to review the additional information and actions required by the Rules.

After January 1, 2021, failure to pay the required fees can result in denial to drill, any applicable fines, a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation against the well driller for failure to notify the District, or other administrative action to be filed in the appropriate district court.
